Does this theme require the hub switcher? No — knowledge_id and knowledge_hub_root are optional. A standalone site just gets a plain title link and no dropdown.

Does search require a separate index build? Yes — search-index.json is generated by whatever builds your site’s content (this exampleSite ships a minimal one in exampleSite/layouts/). The theme only ships the client-side search UI.
